For a good Web Design, cramming too much into each page creates confusion. Visitors get frustrated when they have to scan through rows of links and images to find what they are looking for. By keeping your pages simple, your website will be easier to use. When you meet someone for the first time, you want to make a good first impression. The same should be true for your website. The overall look and feel of your site is the first thing your visitors will notice. There are few things more frustrating than not being able to find certain content on a website. Pages should be well-organized with a top-down design so that visitors can easily browse through the different sections on your website.

    Thank you for your post!!!
I think, In today’s web industry, everyone wants to grow their online business very fast. For that purpose they need to make their website creative, eye-cache, user-friendly, simple and clean, try to avoid excess ads, pop-up etc. Add Product or services eye-cache images that are likely to get more attention to your website and most important make your website content consistence in terms of fonts, colors etc. :)

The design of the website is important to attract more traffic to the website but the contents of the website are also important. Most of the users use the website to gather knowledge. If your website will offer the same material as the other websites than the users do not have any reason to use your website. Because the users always have the option of other website.
Similarly, after designing the website the website should be optimized for the searching engines. The companies cannot earn anything if their website is not visible in the searching engines. No matter how professional or clean looking a website is, it is not going to receive any traffic without SEO.

haven't seen anyone post this yet, but this is a handy guide for the basics on web design - especially for an inhouse guide - full of really useful tips: https://www.1and1.com/digitalguide/...ate-the-perfect-style-guide-for-your-website/

personally, i'd say considering your target audience is the main thing, especially if you're in ecommerce or marketing. from ads to colour schemes and fonts, always think about the user's experience.
