    What type of software? Do you mean compiler than for which OS?

    1. Google gcc: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=gcc
    2. Find "Download"
    3. Click on a suitable hyperlink, e.g. Binaries
    4. Select a suitable link according to your OS, for example if you're using Solaris 2 you might pick Blastwave
    5. Continue according to what you find at the destination.
