    Sharepoint is used for multiple set of web technologies used in similar technical infrastructure. It provides users with intranet portals, document management, extranets, social networks, enterprise search, collaboration and many more. It consists of a set of web technologies that are used in standard applications programming interfaces.

    In terms of application development platform, it provides user with a central management, security control and authority over the roles. There are several versions of Sharepoint available to the user.

    There are Sharepoint role used for the assignment to the users and is useful for analysis and implementation. Depending on the requirements, the roles are described as mentioned below:
    1. SharePoint Architect
    2. SharePoint Developer
    3. SharePoint Designer
    4. SharePoint Administrator
    5. SharePoint Trainer
    6. SharePoint Power User
    7. SharePoint User

    Let’s understand the role performed by each user in detail.

    1) SharePoint Architect

    The architect must analyze the requirements and maintain the business objectives. The architect must be an expert in .NET, SharePoint, .NET and SQL Server technologies. It must be able to create a plan of governance and execute them. User must configure the search center and business intelligence.

    2) SharePoint Developer

    The developer must create custom solutions containing the web parts, object model and the workflows. The deployment package must be submitted to the administrator. The unit tests and memory tests used in the development must be created by the developer.

    3) SharePoint Designer

    The designer must possesses excellent knowledge about HTML, CSS, XML and Master pages. It provides customization to the Share point site pages. The non programming customizations are provided by the designer.

    4) SharePoint Administrator

    The administrator must be an expert in the setting up the Windows Server, Share Point services, Active Directory and IIS. It can monitor the servers. The PowerShell scripts are executed by the admin. The backup of the database is executed by the admin.

    5) SharePoint Trainer

    The trainer must be expert in the Sharepoint system. It must possess the knowledge about the Sharepoint compatible browser. The customers are trained with the sufficient amount of implementation.

    6) SharePoint Power User

    The user must use a good amount of knowledge of the features. The other users must be guided at times.

    7) SharePoint User

    The responsibilities of the user are to be an expert in the functionality and knowledge of the Sharepoint implementation.

    The Key features of Sharepoint 2013



    1) Content Management

    The SharePoint 2013 contains a new feature used for web content management. It helps user to manage the designing of the publishing sites and the process in an organization. The preview version of SharePoint contains the following new features for searching the dynamic web content on the publishing sites.
    1. It can provide the thumbnails to the video created in the application.
    2. It can copy the data from the Microsoft Word document into the HTML content automatically
    3. The content redirection is possible through the browser settings
    4. The embedding of the content of the sites is possible through content management.
    5. Channels can be created that help user to allow the single publishing and rendering in multiple ways
    6. The category pages are combined to satisfy the catalog criteria
    7. Several designing tools are used for the site development
    2) Workflow Services

    The workflow has been redesigned for the SharePoint 2013. The engine is improved for the performance. The new workflow engine is executed under the Windows Azure. There are several workflow types available to the user. They are Workflow Artifact Management, Tracking and monitoring, Managed service reliability, instance management, elastic scale, etc.

    3) Translation Services

    In the earlier versions of SharePoint, the translations to other languages were carried out manually. In SharePoint 2013 the translation services that support the translating content to other languages is provided. The Microsoft Translation Services cloud is responsible for translating the data automatically.

    4) SharePoint Quizzes

    The SharePoint Quizzes are useful when users want response to their queries related to the software. The quiz can be modified and set for user to make unlimited attempts. The grades can be applied manually or through computer.

    5) Education Services

    The education service feature helps user to compete online and training platforms provided by SharePoint. The main motive of the service is to satisfy the educational institutions for the collaborative environment. It provides features as listed below:
    1. Assignment feature for recording the assignment delivery to the students
    2. Collecting the assignments and storing the lessons for the students
    3. The repository for lectures, assignment submissions, result generation
    4. The repository for recording the meetings
    6) Work Management Service

    The Work Management Service application provides the functionality to combine multiple tasks to a central location. The services are synchronized in different environments as Project Server, Exchange and SharePoint.

    The tasks provided by the Work Management Service are as listed below:
    1. The user can view and track their work conduct through SharePoint
    2. The tasks can be cached to the personal user’s site
    3. The Provider model helps user to integrate if there is a necessity for integration
    7) Mobile Features

    There are several opportunities available for the mobile devices. It provides a user interface that is supported and used by most of the mobile devices.
    1. The device channels are used for rendering the content without duplicating the data
    2. The touch support is present on the tablets. The push notification is used for providing alerts set on the repositories.
    3. The PerformancePoint and Excel Services are supported by new version.
    8) Social Tools

    The document modification alerts whenever a document changes are responded back to the users. This helps in less alert flow across the system.

    9) Task Management

    The tasks that are performed in the SahrePoint can be tracked easily. There are several ways to perform the tasks. Some of them are as listed below:
    1. In the Newfeed discussion tab, there is a follow up option. It automatically creates a new task in the My Tasks area.
    2. The tasks created by the user in Outlook can be synchronized with the My Tasks and helps user to hide the sub list and sub titles.
    3. The new timeline can help users to track the progress easily and effectively.
    4. The Microsoft Project 2013 and SharePoint 2013 are integrated with each other. User can generate two way sync between the project file and the task list.
    10) Improved Email Integration

    A new feature as Site Mailbox is introduced in SharePoint 2013. The Site Mailbox creates an inbox for the site. User can create a CC of the sites, emails in the mailbox and send mails to the SharePoint site.

    11) Fast and Effective search

    The SharePoint 2013 contains the following additions to implement faster search.
    1. It provides a PDF support for effectively reading the PDF files
    2. The document previews are provided for better results
    3. The dictionary is managed in the Team Store
    4. The ranking criteria can be modified using the query rules
    5. It provides newsfeed search and videos results page to the user
    12) Document Management

    The document management is an important feature for SharePoint users. The new version of SharePoint has reduced the complexity for performing the tasks. The uses of the document management can be important in the following situations.
    1. When user wants to drag and drop the document contents directly to the document libraries
    2. The items menu consists of live document preview for editing them
    3. The viewing properties helps user to view the similar documents in the current item.
    4. It has simplified share functionality to check that the document is shared with other applications and the invitations are sent to the appropriate ones.
