I read on many forums and also some threads here that the following are the most effective ways of link building.

• Article submission to Article directories
• Directory Submission
• Link exchange with related sites
• Forums Posting with link to signatures
• Blog Comments

But according to me they are the most useless ways of getting links. All these are self promotional links and each link is worth nothing. The links that make the difference are the real non-self promotional links that are given editorially and freely by other sites as your site is worth linking to.

But for new websites usually they would not get the luxury to get real non-self promotions when they first start. So it is always best to do some promoting of your self to see some increase in SERPs. And then when you got some traffic, your website will be recognized as a great source to be linked to and you can stop promoting because other people are doing it for you.

So I would like to get some inputs on what could be your best way to promote your new site.

I usually do the following techniques:
- article submissions
- blog commenting
- classified ads
- directory submissions (make sure to submit your URL to the right category)
- forum posting (link signature)
- link exchange (exchange links on relevant sites with high PR )
- press release
- online groups
- social media and networking (networking sites like twiiter, facebook, myspace, hi5 )
- social bookmarking (like digg, delicious, reddit )

All the above listed are good ways of building links. You just need to build build build all the time. Check the profiles of sites ranking well for you keywords and follow their examples. Create blogs (wordpress, blogger, typepad) create hosted marketing pages, link in from twitter and other social media sites, get a flicker account, set up a ning community...

Yes it is 100% work. Classified ads is just small advertisements divided by specific categories.You can be able to get perfect visitors for your website who really need something from your website or wants information from your website.

All link building techniques are good but be sure that the PR is good. Submit your site in a good PR. Specially Directory and Social Bookmarking Submission.

why don't you try all. i mean, if you do not limit your work and be sure that you are submitting to the right category with the proper use of your targeted kw's.
