Hi friends. Recently I am on link exchange campaign, I normally exchange link with such sites which have more or at least same PR. Should I focus on alexa ranking of site while link exchanging? Suppose A site has the worst alexa but PR same like mine, Will exchanging link with the site affect my site or not. Oh let me say I always go with relevant site. Please tell me if Alexa has any impact.

Yes it is very important because the other webmaster who actually takes the pain of reading the link exchange email does not understand how popular is your site. PR is updated almost quarterly and so just to satisfy his instinct he may look for Alexa ranking.

Neither Alexa not link exchange can get you anywhere.

Thank you for your comment. You seem to have all the answer every time. You said " Neither Alexa not link exchange can get you anywhere. "

Then what should I do to increase my site's page rank. It's been static since for almost a year or so.

Build content which can be linked naturally and try getting ways to get one way links.

using alexa rank webmasters can analyze how much traffic is on your website. Otherwise, alexa rank dose not help in SERPs

Alexa be not same for site as page rank. In link exchange one check the page rank and not the alexa rank. And as for getting higher page rank you have to provide meaningful information, decrease bounce rate , getting quality backlinks. But fresh content is the major need.

Although this thread is rather old now, the question is still relevant today. Alexa rank is based on traffic, and is mainly based on figures gathered by those who use the Alexa toolbar.
Google PageRank is mainly based on the backlinks to a site.
So they are two different measurements and I do not believe that Alexa rank has any real value in terms of assessing the value of a backlink. There is no evidence (unless anyone can show me otherwise) that Google takes any notice of Alexa rank. Why should it, when it has a much larger database of its own? In terms of the value of a backlink to Google, it is only their own measurement (PR) that is relevant.

Hi,
Yes, Alexa rank is important while creating a link or exchange a link from the website.
Alexa ranking of a website shows the popularity and the traffic of the website. The lower is the Alexa, higher is its traffic and so as the popularity.
For ex.: amazon.com (rank 14); weather.com (rank 64); cnn.com (rank 26); google.com (rank 2); Yahoo.com (rank 7); facebook.com(2).

It only shows the popularity and traffic based on the users of its toolbar, so it cannot be representative of the internet as a whole. Alexa ranks 30million sites, but there are about 350million altogether, so that's only about 9% of them.
In addition, my understanding is that their data is inaccurate outside of their top 100,000, and that would mean they have no meaningful ranking for approx 99.7% of all sites. You would not need an Alexa rank to know that the sites you gave as examples are popular high traffic ones. But for example, my site could get 3000 hits a day but if only 30 of them came from Alexa toolbar users I would still have a low Alexa ranking.

Most of the traffic comes from Google only and alexa is good for those who are using alexa tool.
