    Hi!
The career of an Ethical Hacker really appeals to me, since I like to work with computers but I'de like something challenging.

l've looked over the Internet and found that Abertay university in Dundee do an Ethical Hacking degree :0

Is it worth investing in this degree? It take four years and would cost around £21k. Or should I take a different route and get my A+ certificate, use sources on this site and then work my way up to a CEH Qualification while working in the ICT field.

I should also mention that I have access to an accounting apprenticeship that could possible fund some qualifications I need to gain in order to become an Ethical Hacker.

    What do you guys think?

    Any help appreciated :)

    Bro,
Ethical hacking requires more practical knowledge than theory. You need to study a lot in system, server and networking. I cannot judge you knowledge on computers. If you need to start from the basic, You will have to complete your A+ and N+. Personal recommendation dont spend soo much money before you know what is what. Start with Nugets. you can get 100's not videos in the web about CEH. First learn about the WALL (Firewall and it useage). Then learn to break it.

    Recomendation:
    1. a+ and N+
    2. CCNA
    3. Some firewall certification.
    4. CEH

This will make you a perfect hacker then doing your certification in university.

And again.. YOu will have to be updated on the current technology. Have a VM installed and Crack your own network. Practice makes a person perfect

    Hi,
In order to become an Ethical Hacker, I think the application side should be weighted, the CEH and CISSP certificates will make you better.

Having a certification in Ethical Hacking will provide you with a good number of job opportunities. As a hacker, one should have an excellent knowledge of programming and coding skills which will help in cracking passwords and compromising with web servers, etc. so I think it's worth investing in this degree.

Becoming an ethical hacker requires a combination of education, technical skills, and ethical mindset. Here are some steps you can take to become an ethical hacker:

    1. Learn computer basics: Start by learning the fundamentals of computer science, such as computer architecture, operating systems, networking, programming, and databases.

    2. Study cybersecurity: Learn about the various types of cyber threats, security vulnerabilities, and security measures used to protect computer systems and networks.

    3. Obtain relevant certifications: Obtain industry-recognized certifications such as Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), CompTIA Security+, and Offensive Security Certified Professional (OSCP).

    4. Gain practical experience: Get hands-on experience in cybersecurity through internships, volunteering, or participating in security-related projects.

    5. Learn ethical hacking techniques: Study the techniques used by hackers to penetrate computer systems and networks, such as network scanning, penetration testing, and social engineering.

    6. Practice with ethical hacking tools: Use ethical hacking tools such as Metasploit, Nmap, and Wireshark to practice your hacking skills in a controlled environment.

    7. Stay up to date with the latest cybersecurity trends: Stay current with the latest cybersecurity trends by reading industry publications, attending conferences and workshops, and participating in online forums.
It's important to note that ethical hacking should only be done with proper authorization and in a controlled environment.
