Hey guys I know this question always brings up much debate but I would like to understand the advantages and disadvantages of windows vs the linux os thanks
so basically the question that has always made me think is that can an average computer user with medioka abilities be able to run linux and make use of it. Is it teachable to ordinary computer users? I would like to use it on my second pc so that I can learn more about it as I have lots of computer orientated friends and am sick of never being able to really join in discssions or debates. :cuss:
Yes but I personally do not feel the need to use Linux as I am fine with the price that I need to pay to Win for the user friendlyness.
I beg to differ with shabbir Linux is not only developer friendly but also user friendly. It comes with a slick GUI to match that of windows.Only disadvantage you might not be able to run many apps made for windows specifically.Yes it is easy to pick up infact you can simply use it like windows initially and than get into the kernel, shell and other tech things. Also Linux is much more secure and also if you are interested in hacking Linux gives an advantage.
This does not contradicts with what I am saying though. I have never seen a Linux as user friendly as Windows. Ubuntu comes close to it but then I am not too sure about how long it will be there. Like Mandrake Linux was very good few years back but now its all gone.
Yup maybe but again I'm using fedora and I'm thankfull the day I installed it no hanging of computer,no blue screens.Windows is a pain specially if you are using a pirated copy.So I guess it really depends on the context. But I think windows would still win as it provides a huge base of technical support which is required by offices which can't really afford an in-house engineer. I'm just wondering if the world would be a better place without windows ?? Having said that I'm still a big fan of Bill Gates Any comments
thanks I still like Mr Gates just because I don't know much about anything else never tried any other operating system and with my knowledge I doubt I would even get another os to work haha
You surely can trust me it's not that difficult. You could have dual os system on your machine so that you can work both with linux and windows.Consult people in the forum or ask some one to help you configure. If you are intrested you have to start somewhere.I like your spirit.Best of luck
thanks alot I try, sometimes feel bad asking questions other know the answers to but I need to start somewhere. I think those people who work with dual screens are cool, looks awesome :p dual os's on dual screen could totally rock!
windows - easy to use (easy for hackers to hack..), not stable, very secure or fast. Linux - what most programmers, hosters and some hackers prefer, it's open source, you can fix any problems yourself, without having to wait for an update, fast, few/none crashes, stable, secure, and it just works. Oh, and Linux is better for hacking due to some good programs being made for Linux only, and since it's open source you can make it do stuff it wasn't supposed to do..
