I have my fathers laptop tonight; trying to figure out how to reset a password the he created; and now can't remember. Ive read through the related posts & have tried each of the responses for a solution, but no luck.:embarasse & :crazy: His laptop is a Dell Inspiron 1000. I have another Dell Inspiron 1000 & wondered if I could swap out a part(s) to get his back in working order? If there's a possible yes in your answer; I should add that mine is retired because it would shutdown arbitrarily for no apparent reason; not turn on for no apparent reason & finally either the internal battery or maybe the ac charger quit...but it wouldn't retain a charge. With all considered, I'd appreciate your expertise & and any insight that you could offer to me. I called Dell earlier this evening and was quite disappointed; I agree like some of the others noted, paying them for a service call for this type of issue is ridiculous; but either way, couldn't be an option for us right now anyway. !BIOS is a freeware utility which is designed to be a whole BIOS and security suite. It has the ability to decrypt the passwords used in some of the most common BIOS makes such as Award, Phoenix, American Megatrends, IMB etc.. It also has the ability to brute force the password (known as “blasters”). However, this method is dangerous and can result in some unexpected and unwanted results. Note: Because of this applications password cracking abilities, some antivirus software may report it as a virus/trojan. This is a false positive. To start using !BIOS, reboot your computer and take note of the BIOS type and version you are running. For example, If your motherboard uses Award BIOS you should look for the text “Award Medallion BIOS 6.0″ or something similar. Download !BIOS from the link I have sent you via PM and save it to your desktop. Then, open a DOS command windows by going to Start > Run and type: cmd Once you see a black screen in front of you, type: cd desktop You should now see something like: C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserName\Desktop> Now type the name of the file you just downloaded, if you haven’t changed the name just type in: bios320.exe Use the down arrow and choose “Crackers” and then press the right arrow. Using the up and down arrows, select the BIOS that the motherboard is using and press Enter. You should now see a menu asking what you want to crack, in most cases its the Supervisor or System Passwords you want to crack, so press the 1 key on your keyboard. It will then show you another menu asking how you want it to be cracked. Option 1 is pretty good so try that first by pressing the 1 key on your keyboard. You should now have your BIOS password. Reboot the computer, enter the BIOS and try it out. On many computers (especially old ones), computer manufacturers build in backdoor passwords for their own technicians to use so they can access the BIOS when the hardware is being serviced. Thank you! Id like to try this. But, I have 2 quick questions: :worried: 1. Since I cant get pass the password prompt; Can I load the !BIOS on a thumb drive from mine, insert in his & reboot/ will his PC respond & run it? 2. I can't capture a view of his bios info., ref., that Ill need in the instruction. Ive tried every button & F# function at reboot & it just goes straight to the password prompt; since I have this other laptop, same model as his, can I input the bios info captured from mine? And, If question 1 is a yes, this question no I can't, will this step during the process keep me from proceeding without knowing the correct info.,? Thank you again! Really! Thank you!
Option 1 wont work since the BIOS is ROM that is on the motherboard... The other laptop will have the same BIOS if its the same model so if a backdoor password works on the other it should work on yours. The short answer is no. But did you expect any more from someone who posted their ?? in the "intro forum?" oops! I wasn't sure what you meant about about a password on mine should maybe offer insight as to the password on his?? I dont have a password on mine; but then I thought you meant Id see one I could use from within my bios screen...but mine is blank & just ready to be set. Anyway, I hated to ask again what you meant; and instead when to the websites you recommended. It seems the yahoo post has the best reference to our machine w/ a possible fix. One of the links takes you to a step by step diagram about taking it apart, basically completely apart, to get to the answer. I think I'm going to try that; just didn't have the guts yesterday, but will today. I have the PC at the kitchen table w/ my toolbox beside it; looks like a prep area to perform a major surgery...Lets hope he doesn't die on my table. :worried: Thanks so much for checking on me! Shabbir, thank you for all of your help & patience; I decided to give up trying to take it apart; if it was my own, I wouldn't think twice; but Id hate to put his in a condition that no one would be able to revive. I have taken mine and others apart before to spray them, if I spray them I take them completely apart, you only need to expose the motherboard to get to the jumper or battery. There is about 20 screws and youre done, just concentrate. If you can open a Desktop computer you can open a laptop. Both have CPU, RAM, HDD, Screen, and so on, with a laptop its just all more interconnected and a bit smaller. Try to see how far you come, the laptop wont do you any good on the shelf more than it would do after atleast an attempt.
Open your laptop and check to see if there a jumper labelled clear CMOS or clr CMOS or any abbreviation that suggests CMOS. Fuse that jumper and on your laptop. if this couldnt help, get 'Hiren's boot cd', a bootable cd that provides options for password cracking. Else us the same boot cd to back-up the the bios on your pc. download the bios from the manufacturer's website then use it to flash the the bios rom chip. Make sure you download the correct bios for your system and flash the bios well. mostly they come on floppy disks. insert the floppy disk and restart the computer. I hope one of these help you.
First start your system then go press f8 for booting. Go on safe mode and select the administrator account On there you can change password or delete.
