Hi everyone, I have plans of introducing a website so that I can start my online business. The site will be dealing in computer accessories and all the hardware stuff that is related to the computer field with an online purchase facility. But, before that I would like to know the pre-requisites that are needed to run a website of your own that has an online payment option, as I was informed about the SSL certificate issues by my developer and would like to know more on this from you people.

You would need SSL if you would like to do the payment processing yourself but if you use the Paypal like other payment processing information and also user payment info is not stored with you, you can manage to do without it initially but then as you grow you would definitely need it.

SSL certificate is a necessity if you are planning to introduce an online store and accept payments online. SSL is Secure Sockets Layer which is a communications protocol that has been approved by Internet Engineering Task Force(IETF) as a security standard. The SSL certificate assures the visitors to your site of the security of their personal information for the purchase and enforces a trust among the visitors. I would suggest you to get yourself a SSL Certificate as without this, you would not be eligible to prove your professionalism and trust to your customers. My friend had been sought the services of Verisign. I believe that this may be a good option for you.

SSL basically need to protect private data collected by your website through buyers or visitors of your websites. If you are want to accept payment online, then you need SSL for your website.

People need SSL to protect data collected by special programming codes too.

Specially if you are in E-commerce business, Use of SSL (Secure Socket Layer) and a digital certificate enable a web browser (your customer) to communicate securely with your website, assuring the customer of 3 things:

    1. That the website really is who it claims to be.
    2. That credit card numbers, etc are encrypted and cannot be intercepted.
    3. That the data sent and received cannot be tampered with or forged.

That's correct! You should have SSL certificate for online payment sites. If you'd like to use Payment gateway then it's must to have SSL on your website. It provides the secure connection way to access the data over internet. When you will apply the SSL then data will be encrypted on your website and then sent over internet. The sensitive details like credit card, account number should have proper security which is applied by SSL certificate.

Also, now a days users sued to access the sites which has SSL installed on it. When there is green padlock on top left corner of the page that time the user thinks that it;s safe to share and proceed with the online transactions.

So when you would like to proceed with online payment sites, do install SSL certificate on it.

Starting an online business is an exciting venture. To ensure a smooth operation of your website, especially with online payments you should have SSL certificate.
Your developer is right to highlight the importance of an SSL certificate. It encrypts the data exchanged between your website and your customers, ensuring a secure and trustworthy online environment. This is crucial, especially when handling sensitive information like payment details. You can purchase SSL certificate from various SSL provider such as ssl2buy.com
