File Splitter and Merger in C++

I just wanted to do a project on the topic.
What would I have to learn to complete this work.
Which topics to cover?

I have recently completed a book OOP in C++ by Robert Lafore.

 

Build an application like winrar..where a file can be split and merged...

 

And one thing I forgot to mention..u need to have very good knowledge on file i/o..first clear the concept because as per my experience file handling is the most trickiest part after pointer......
