Is this thing : "1$ Daily Competition" meaningless now ?

"Re-arrange the jumbled word" : is it the right challenge ?

    My views :

    (1) Yes, the 1$ Daily Competition is meaningless. Thanx to LJay, we know scrabblesolver.net does what it's name says
    (2) No, it does not fit into a programming forum like this.

    Please give your opinion.

It would be interesting to see but if we can substitute it with something related to programming then it can be replaced.

Sure, I have a nice idea:

We can offer some cipher text (using any cipher you wish), and ask them to recover the plain text. Or anything harder that google/internet can't solve :p

I also think we should make the following changes :
    (1) Questions should be posted at a fixed time, say 08:00, so that ALL users have access to the question before someone posts the answer quickly, 'cuz they know when the question is to be posted. With a random posting time, the one who is online at that instant is at advantage.

    (2) If the answer to the question is not posted within 00:01 (12:01 AM) of the next day, the 1$ for that day should go towards the Support open source campaign of Go4Expert.com. The thread should be locked so that no answers are accepted.

    Please give your views.

The answer should be worked on and not readily available is what I agree but then it should be something where only brain should be used and don't want a paper work involved like cracking some code because that would target only few programmers and web guys would again be left out.

That would mean the competition is light and funny and everyone has an advantage but when taken a fixed time zone then people in some timezone can be left out.

    Agreed for non-answers.

I forgot to add that we also have Go4Expert - Code Competitions which did not got many competitions for the reason it was related to coding and tough problems.

Sorry, I didn't understand that part.
Say the question is available at 04:00 AM (GMT +5.5), so which time zones do you think will be left out ? I think all have an equal opportunity.

@ coderzone : May be you should explain why did you vote "Yes".

@ shabbir : I think it would be better to ask users to "Rearrange the jumbled phrase", instead of jumbled words. I just checked MANY online scrabble solvers and could not find any one that unscrambles a phrase.

Yes I am also in that line of thought and one more thing I have in mind is a hint to answer something like the one I had before

7 letter word which means Japanese warrior

In most cases we can find the answer from the hint, through google/wikipedia.

It is ok. It is just fun and timing is also very fine. So, that everyone gets a chance to participate.

I think, instead of always going for Jumbled word, it can be a mixed kind, sometimes some phrase or proverbs etc can be questioned.

Let people take help of google or whatever, it is all fine. But tming should not be always same. Anytime it shuld be, so, who gets online and solves it should be right one to grab the prize.

As Shabbir says, already code-comptetion is there, intersted can partcipate in that too.

    thanks
    Mridula.

Yeah shabbir already convinced me about that.
Keeping a fixed time would result in someone being ALWAYS at advantage, and some others being ALWAYS at disadvantage.

    Participate :surprised: ?!
It's a real dead forum. No questions are posted there, how do you expect me to participate then ?

    BTW, you contradict yourself :
    (1) You voted that "YES, jumbled word is the right challenge"
    (2) Your last reply reads : "instead of always going for Jumbled word, it can be a mixed kind, sometimes some phrase or proverbs etc can be questioned."

    :surprised:freak::surprised

I voted as "Yes" to support this competion and suggested to keep the same with some mixed kind.

I didnot want to Vote "No" to this and make it replaced by something else like code competion etc.

Hope I am not confusing you :)

No, it's clear to me now.

BTW, did you see yesterday's question ? It was a phrase and not a word.
But the question read "Today's word", so I was really confused.

The reason you feel dead is because G4EF is not adding competition to it but it should be by users when they face some tough and difficult problems which at times get posted in forums only and we would make that move in the next shuffle that we may do.
