Vista or XP
I'm getting my new CPU in the mail today... and I was planning on doing a fresh install of XP when I finally get it but I have been unable to locate my copy of the OS. So now I have the option to install either one... its just a matter of going to my university bookstore and picking up a copy of either for $10.

I have used XP since it came out and I have been quite content. I don't use my computer for much besides listening/downloading MP3s and movies, using Publisher every now and again to update my really BLAND website, playing CS 1.6/Source, play poker online, chat, check email, view pr0n, etc.

Nothing that really requires me to have DX10. Like I said I've been content with XP and I'm not sure if I'd need Vista for anything else...

Given all of that information, and as you can see my hardware from my signature (CPU will be changing over to an Opteron), which direction would you head? I might reinstall Stalker again, but for now my 360 occupies most of my gaming needs.

Just wondering...

Re: Vista or XP
I would still go with Vista as MS will be pumping everything into it and slowly XP will become obsolete.

Re: Vista or XP
As per my understanding as you have mentioned that your needs are not to big it is much advisable that you go for XP because Vista requires more RAM than XP to operate efficiently.

Re: Vista or XP
I do agree with Shabir. as per Microsoft they are going to give support to WIN XP by this year end. Currently u might see bugs in Vista but when XP was released, at that time XP too had many bugs.
Microsoft is trying it's level best to make Vista a successul competitor among all OS.

Re: Vista or XP
Windows Xp is better because there are more compatible programs and more secure and it's widely supported. Windows Xp is great and efficient operating system. It's very faster and user friendly.

Re: Vista or XP
I believe prijikn is sorta wrong. you only use it for basic needs you won't encounter any program issues. And Vista isn't slow. You just have to have a pretty good computer to run it.

You'll be fine with XP for awhile to come. I think at least till windows 7.

If you have a pretty good video card, then I say go with vista. If not...XP. But whatever you do. 64-bit for the win.

And just to add in. Vista, for the basic person. Is a million times more user friendly. And has always just found every driver I've ever needed...Other than wireless card drives that is.

Re: Vista or XP
I would pick XP, and in fact did for my new Core i7 PC. It boots up in about a nanosecond.
If you want something later than XP wait for Windows 7. Or if you want something faster consider Linux (if you've got the time to read all those HOWTOs that is).

Re: Vista or XP
Before changing your operating into vista, you have to consider first disk spaces and memory.. Vista consumes a lot of memory.. You might be getting into some difficulties if your gonna change to vista..
