amd turion vs intel celeron

which one is better laptop with Intel Celeron M CPU 440 @ 1.86Ghz with 504MB of RAM using Windows XP
OR
one using AMD Turion(tm) 64*2 1.60 Ghz with 1 GIG OF RAM using Vista

Should be better because of higher RAM but I am not sure what you meant with 64*2

Re: amd turion vs intel celeron

does the difference in speed not come into effect like comparing 1.86Ghz and 1.60Ghz

the 64*2 is written on the sticker on the laptop like for example the sticker Intel Inside

If 64*2 means 1.60 2 processor of 64 bit then the speed is also more.

64 * 2 means 64 bit wide internal bus and dual core procesor. This means it has two processors on one chip that work together, and they will each go a lot faster than a 32 bit wide processor, plus the machine wil run more applications in the future that are designed for 64 bits.

I assume you get about twice the speed you would have got with a single core clocking at the same speed. Apparently, dual core are good for multitasking also. This is what I would put my money on.

The size of the memory only effects the computer speed when you start to run out and go into disk cach, which uses the hard disk as memory. Most new machines seem to offer 1 GByte of RAM anyway which is plenty.
