Tips to Using Facebook & Twitter for Marketing

In today’s business world, social media tools have become the buzzword for success. Companies are increasingly going online to promote their businesses and acquire new customers. Facebook is the most popular social media site on the planet. If you own a business, using Facebook to promote it is essential for online success. However, recent changes in policy have made Facebook tough to make money on. But there is always a way. Yes, that’s right. This article is going to teach you how to use Facebook successfully for marketing purposes.
  1. Have goals in mind: Before jumping on to the Facebook bandwagon, it is important that you have goals in mind. What is it that you want to accomplish? Do you want people to know about your company? Do you want to sell stuff? Or do you want a place where your customers can come in to have their service needs met and their queries answered? When you have a goal in mind, coming up with an action plan becomes easier.
  2. Understand your audience: Before you start posting and reposting on your Facebook page like crazy, stop and understand your audience. Post things that your particular audience can identify with. Posting stuff that has no connection with your product or business does not help at all.
  3. Branding your layout: It is important that you customize your Facebook page. It should be consistent with what your company logo looks and feels like. So if your company logo has the color yellow, don’t make your Facebook page green, unless it is relevant. This is very essential for your branding efforts to be successful. People should be able to identify your business with your Facebook page.
  4. Post frequently: Facebook marketing is all about engaging your audience. For this, it is important that you post on your company’s page frequently. Keeping it dry for a long time will make the audience think that you are not putting any effort into your online presence. It may even happen that some people may remove themselves from following your page, something you don’t want at all to happen. Make an effort to post frequently. There is a Facebook application that even lets you schedule your posts. This is good when you know you won’t have much time to post in the future.
  5. Keep your eye on data: The recent Facebook algorithm changes have made it impossible for everyone who has liked your page to receive each of your updates. That is why you have to keep an eye always on what posts and updates of yours get the most ‘likes’, comments and engagement so that you can keep on coming up with similar stuff.
  6. Pay up: Facebook has recently stared charging money from businesses who want to do promotion work on it. Paying up is a good idea even if what you get for it is something that you previously got for free. Facebook is not the giant social media tool for nothing! So paying a little money makes a lot of sense.

Twitter is big. Yes, that’s right. It is not for nothing that Twitter is considered one of the major social media tools available on earth. If you have not yet started using Twitter for your business, you may actually be losing money. Twitter is where businesses come to promote themselves, engage with their clients and acquire new clients. However, do not start using Twitter on a whim. The idea is to engage people, something which is not possible unless you have focus and a strategy. Here are things you could do to use Twitter for marketing your business.
  1. Your market: Before you jump on the Twitter bandwagon, it is important that you understand your market. Just following anyone and everyone will not help. For real success, your need to engage the right kind of audience. It is a great idea to follow these categories of people mainly: your potential customers, existing customers, your potential joint venture partners and people who are following your rival businesses. Now you can very well go on and follow other people as well, but this list will help you find who your target is in this matter.
  2. Get personal: The truth is that no one likes following and chatting with a business with no face. Of course, this could work for big businesses with a national customer base, but if your company is a small one, you need to put a face and name to it. Wherever possible, put your own photo and name so that people know who they are chatting with. Your bio on Twitter is actually the starting point of many relationships. In brief, describe who you are, what you do and what your business is all about. On your updates too, try adding an email link where people can reach you at all times. A simple ‘’Say hi to me at (your email id)’’ works wonders!
  3. Follow: Follow people actively. It is not a good Twitter marketing strategy to sit back and wait for people to follow you. Instead, follow more people who fall in your target market audience.
  4. Engage your audience: Twitter is all about conversations. Engage your audience. Give your professional advice freely. Don’t stick to only business, talk to your audience about other things as well. When people see that you are giving your advice freely, they are more likely to pay your business for your services.
  5. Test more: Something may work for a particular business but it may not work for another business. So test Twitter for your own business. See what works and what does not. When you do this, you will have a better idea about what to do and what not to do on Twitter.
  6. Shift your relationship from Twitter: To convert customers, you need to shift your relationship with the audience from Twitter. Ask people to join your mailing list, call you up on a phone number or go to your website. When you have the end in mind, converting your audience is not difficult.
