Tennis Championship | 17 Sep 2009

If a tennis championship is played on a knock-out basis, how many players participate in the tournament if 255 matches are totally played?

Still waiting for some explanation because to have one winner you should have finals as well

Please try to explain it as well

Re: Tennis Championship | 17 Sep 2009

we take example of 4 players
since it's a knowck out: he who loses, quits
a-b = a wins, b loses
c-d = c wins, d loses

a-c = a wins, c loses

so in this, 3 matches were played in which 3 players lost and 1 was the winner
OR, no of players = no of matches (= no of losers) + 1 winner
so, 256 players played 255 matches, out of which 255 players lost and 1 was the ultimate winner

Now 256 is right but the person who gave that first did not explain for a day and so finally nimesh is winner. Unless he responds ASAP
