Liar Lies or Not ?

Does a liar lies when he says he says he is telling a lie ?

No. He says the truth because there is no lier who always lies.

You obviously know nothing about British politics. How do you know when a British politician is lying? His lips are moving.

Actually they're not all as bad as that, but it's a reasonable premise to start with.

Ah, but if he says he is telling a lie then he is lying about whether or not he's lying. It's a paradox, you see. In fact, nobody can say "This is a lie" (or "I'm lying", or "This statement is false", or any other variation) because the statement is self-contradictory: if it's a lie and therefore true then it's not a lie, but if it's not a lie then it's true and must therefore be a lie. Which makes no sense.

Some ppl think, a liar is a liar at all times, and for all purposes.

But it's not necessarily so.
