BTW that was estimated number and here are more actual facts and figures.

Mandarin is Sino-Tibetan family of language which contains mostly Chinese Characters and have more than 1120 million people speak about it in China, Malaysia, Taiwan region.

It would take more than your lifetime to learn because unless you have people around here know it you cannot learn that one :D
