How do you quantify Traffic
 

I am about to enter into partnership of one site where he is interested in me being the one of the marketing partner and so I would like to know how do I go about knowing the amount of traffic generated by me.

One thing that comes to my mind is creating a sub-domain which redirect to the main domain and all referring from that url could be my traffic.

I would like to know what you guys prefer for such situations.
