Java would definitely not be the language but yes JSP can be an option but still I would go with PHP as I know to an extent PHP but not JSP

Java is absolutely a valid choice! J2EE and good framework will give you all you need to make a robust e-commerce website with transactional support. However, java has a steep learning curve, setting up a java stack is not as easy as a lamp stack and hosting is more difficult to find, so be warned.

PHP all the way. There are tons of resources if you get stuck, many online tutorials to help you get started, and also quite a few forums (such as here) to help with PHP debugging and support.
