MAC Spoofing on college wireless
 

Hi all, new to the forum and have a question regarding MAC spoofing to gain access to a colleges wireless network.

Basically, the wireless on campus requires a user to register (MAC address) in order to access the wireless. I am able to get the connection, which is very strong, but when I open firefox, it tells me my MAC address is not registered therefore I cannot browse the internet.

I did a quick sniff of the network to find out what computers where connected. Found their IP and MAC addresses and changed my MAC address one who was connected already. I seem to get wireless access then get kicked off about a second later. Then reconnected right afterward and so on and so on. I don't have a solid connection.

I changed my MAC address to my friends (who was offline) and it allowed me to surf the internet and stay connected just fine.

My question is: Is there a way to spoof my MAC to someones who is on the network already and allow me to surf the web without them or I getting kicked off? Or does the person have to be offline altogether.

well u would get someones MAC address and use it when they are offline
but once they get online it would kick THEM out :)

im having a slightly different problem

at the moment I have a MAC address to use, but i cant seem to be able to spoof my MAC address

I'm running mac os x 10.5.5
i have tried the "sudo ifconfig en1 ether xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx"
but it doesn't seem to work after 10.5.1

does anyone know how to spoof the MAC address, or have any ideas for me?

p.s. i would preferably like to spoof ethernet's MAC address

there are lot of softs available to change the MAC address to a custom one. try that.

get net tools by relix, it can spoof MAC very easy, and Cain.

spoonwizard - i looked into net tools and the other one at oxid.it, but they seem to be only for windows, im using mac os x 10.5.5
any ideas?

neo_vi - i have looked for software to do this, there r many for windows, but i cant seem to find one for mac os x
any ideas?

Good call on that ;)

Is that the only way or is there a way of maybe "piggy backing" there connection and using it at the same time?

Its possible in IP spoofing. In our college only certain IP's will be given with the net connection (configured with squid). When anyone changes the IP before the original system starts then they can get the connection even after the actual system starts. But in case of MAC i'm not sure.
