Looking at the picture of the Asus Eee Note EA800 you might think that this is another competitor of Apple’s iPad or Samsung’s Galaxy Tab, or kind of too smart tablet PC, but I can tell you that this smart device is none of them! This is basically a half tablet and half smart phone! Sounds crazy? Well, probably this is the best product as it’s completely different than iPad or Galaxy Tab etc. Asus Eee EA800 is basically a monochrome (black n’ white) ebook reader come notes collector. Fully touch system allows you to collect notes while you are in college or in conferences etc. The Eee Note tries to carve out a niche by being part e-reader and part smartphone on steroids. Product Design and Description Originally called the 'Eee Tablet', the recently renamed Eee Note is essentially a versatile, digital notepad, complete with stylus. It's aimed quite squarely at business folk, writers and students, to the extent that, if you aren't one of the above, you probably this will not fit you! The Eee Note EA800 is an extremely well-built and attractive device. Weighing in at one pound and measuring 8.8 x 5.5 x .43 inches, it feels really solid in the hand without being bulky. Also the Eee Note comes with an attractive leather bi-fold carrying case that the device snaps into. Also at the back side the device has a small camera so that you can never miss special snaps while moving with this note collector! Below the screen on the front are seven touch-sensitive buttons, divided into two rows. The top row of buttons has a back button and four little square icons that correspond to context-sensitive tabs on the bottom of the screen, though you can just tap the tabs on-screen with your pen instead of hitting the buttons. The bottom row of buttons has a forward arrow, home button, and back arrow. Again, these functions can be accomplished by using on-screen navigation too. That was all about its design; this device also contains some good features. At the bottom of the device you will find a mic, headphone socket, reset button (so that you can restart the device when needed), a micro sd card slot and an micro USB connector. So, this device contains almost all important items including camera. Also the 8-inch, 1024 x 768 matte screen has good viewing angles (nothing washes out from any perspective) and very sharp text. Unfortunately, there doesn’t appear to be a backlight, and there’s no way to adjust the brightness. Still, the notes we took were so sharp and well defined. Operating System and User Interfacing This small device runs with a Linux OS and also allows multitasking. The user interface contains of 14 application icons (such as notes, calculator, music player, voice memo etc.). All the 14 application also have their own menu items. Regarding multitasking, you can run other programs while using another. Such as while recording sound you can run notes, if you are multitasking with your EA800 then a simple icon will appear at the top of the device. The Eee Note also has a virtual keyboard that occasionally appears when you are using an app or form that requires letters to be typed, such as the web browser. For now, at least, the device’s Wi-Fi connection only works in the browser. If they can market this $250 device well then we will see this device in schools, colleges soon. As we all are habituated with taking notes at there, so if we get such device in pocket then we can avoid some copies, this will save nature and our efforts for carrying them (ha ha!
