New Delhi, Sep 20 (PTI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today greeted the people on the occasion of Id-ul-Fitr, describing it as a festival that commemorates "austerity" and "brotherhood".

"Id-ul-Fitr marks the end of the period of fasting during the pious month of Ramzan. The festival commemorates austerity, brotherhood and the spirit of sharing. It reflects the true spirit of our composite culture," the Prime Minister said.

"May the festival strengthen our resolve to promote tolerance and peace and live in harmony," he added.
