It could be anywhere from unnoticable to intolerable since the more work the function actually does, the less significant the overhead as a fraction of the total cost.

You can'nt imagine, If That functions have a lot of arguments. If this function is called inside a loop suppose million times. Then you can see differences. In Statistical data analysis product Millions times loop is normal.
