yep;
big images in size and resolutions could increase your loading time by much. also to much animated banners could create a big problem for some users.

you can also optimize the j-query or java scripts or ajax codes also .

Our website have same problem and I removed useless code and used single widget in place of multiple widgets. Now websites loading time is better compared to previous one

also all the flash content usually makes your loading time very bad; i always encourage to create sites with CSS and HTML
