But the links in the ad network like linkmetro can always be dangerous from the SEO point of view. As an example digitalpoint has an ad network and as google has detected it, have removed the url and everything related to adnetwork even from the index.

Another way to get quality links is to submit your tutorials to high ranked tutorial directories (like good-tutorials.com). But this is only for a specific niche

I personally think that doing any link exchange still should be done manually. Automation makes it too easy and even the most careful SEO will become careless and link to a banned or low quality site and kill all his efforts.
Take the time to do it manually and you will reap the benefits late on. |

Link exchange is the best way to start off for the new sites to get the ball rolling but it should be done cautiously and manually to sites which you think could be your potential competitors.
